About The Event

Cowls are a wonderful way to keep the neck warm, without having a lot of fabric to catch on buttons or a zipper. Cables are a nice way to dress them up (and keep the knitting interesting).

This cowl pattern is written to make a loop. It can also be made as a short scarf and fastened with a pretty scarf/shawl pin, or it can be made with buttons and buttonholes.

Participants should know how to cast on and bind off, and how to knit and purl. You will learn how to make cables, how to make smoothly finished edges, and how to make buttonholes if you choose that finish.

Materials needed:

A skein of bulky (also called chunky) yarn, at least 110 yards. Yarn should be all or mostly wool, so it can be blocked if wanted. 100% acrylics don’t block well. Black or navy will make it harder to see your stitches while working.

Size 10.5 needles. (11 also fine)

A cable needle, or a double-pointed sock needle, for holding stitches for cables

1 ¼ to 1 ½ inch buttons if you choose that finish

Dates/Time: 6:00 to 8:00 pm

Jan 23, 30, Feb 13 & 20th.

(leaving time to accomplish most of the knitting) You will need to work on your project outside of class.

Cost: $65.00
